Andrew Lipian

Countertenor
The University of Michigan

Cleveland native, Andrew Lipian, has studied countertenor for 13 years, currently with Stephen Lusmann at The University of Michigan where he is pursuing a Master’s degree in Voice.

He has performed in Benjamin Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” with the University of Michigan Opera Theater, soloed with the University Symphony Orchestra and Choirs in a performance of Leonard Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms,” and has performed in several venues in the Ann Arbor Area.

Prior to Michigan, Mr. Lipian performed Messiah with Credo Music at the Oberlin Conservatory for 4 years and has soloed with the Cleveland Messiah Chorus since 2011. He has performed various Bach Cantatas with Emmanuel Music in Boston, David Gooding in Cleveland, and Windsor Chamber Music.

During his undergraduate studies at Oberlin Conservatory, he placed first in back-to-back competitions for NATS of Ohio, garnered a top prize at the Classical Singer’s Convention (NYC), and was a Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (2013). Future engagements include performing the role of "Ruggiero" in the University of Michigan Opera Theater's Spring 2019 production of Handel's "Alcina.

Seungyun Kim

Bass-baritone
New England Conservatory.
Bass-baritone SeungYun Kim holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Seoul National University and a biennio di canto from Conservatorio di Milano (G. Verdi). Mr. Kim is pursuing a graduate diploma at New England Conservatory.

He has performed numerous operatic roles with New England Conservatory; Music Academy of the West; Conservatorio di Milano G. Verdi, Palazzina Liberty, and Villa Clerici in Milan; Seoul Arts Center; Hyundai Arts Center in Ulsan, Korea; and Chungmu Arts Theater and Seoul Metropolitan Opera in Seoul, Korea.

In 2016, he won second place at Concorso Lirico Citta di Monterosso in Monterosso, Italy. He was a Voice Program Fellow at Music Academy of the West during the summer of 2018, and has accepted a position with Santa Fe Opera for the summer of 2019.

Daewon Seo

Baritone

Oberlin Conservatory

Daewon Seo, a previous Jere H. Brophy Scholar and George L. Hackett Scholar in Mather competitions, received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Seoul National University and The University of Texas at Austin, respectively.

Currently, he is pursuing an Artistic Diploma at Oberlin Conservatory. Mr. Seo has sung numerous roles in opera productions at the Oberlin Conservatory, the Butler Opera Center at the University of Texas, the Miami Music Festival, and at Seoul National University.

In addition to his Mather Competition experience, he was a finalist in the New York International Vocal Competition and the William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition in Flint, MI. He also took first place in the 7th Korean Art Song Competition in Seoul, Korea and third place in the 56th Ewha & Kyunghyang Competition, Seoul, Korea.

Daniel Fridley

Bass

Case Western Reserve University

Daniel Fridley is a native of Corvallis, Oregon and candidate for a Doctor of Musical Arts in Historical Performance Practice degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
He holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Cleveland Institute of Music and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with Vocal Performance Option from Oregon State University.

His “spotless, resonant bass” (ClevelandClassical.com) lends itself well to both early music and operatic performing. Mr. Fridley has participated as a young artist in the Boston Early Music Festival and the La Musica Lirica program in Italy.

He has sung with The Cleveland Opera, and performed with Quire Cleveland, the Apollo’s Fire Singers, and Musical Upcoming Stars in the Classics. In 2018, he will perform with Atlanta Baroque Orchestra and The Cleveland Opera, and participate in The Newberry Consort's Young Artist Program.
